SHANGHAI, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News:
Rhodia, as a partner in Michelin’s Challenge Bibendum taking place in Shanghai, is presenting today its global automotive offer, in response to the challenges of sustainable road mobility.
With the dramatic increase in travel in Asia, especially China, the automotive industry is facing the dual challenges of controlling emissions and reducing fuel consumption. Rhodia is responding to the growing needs of the main players in this sector by maximizing its expertise in the three key areas:
High performance silicas, an essential ingredient in low energy consumption tires, reduce rolling resistance by up to 25% and thus generate fuel savings of more than 5%.
Rare earths in which Rhodia is world leader, help reduce vehicle emissions. The technology developed by Rhodia for particulate filters in diesel vehicles eliminates almost all soot particles. Products for gas driven vehicles bring improvements to the efficiency and reliability of catalytic converters and today Rhodia products are found in more that one-third of catalytic converters worldwide. The Group's offer to this market was enhanced in 2007 by the acquisition of an alumina "washcoat" business in the USA.
Polyamide-based engineering plastics bring about a reduction of up to 10% in the weight of vehicles and therefore limit fuel consumption and help cut CO2 emissions.
Rhodia generates about 10% (or 500 million euros) of its sales in the automotive market and plans to double this figure over the next five years.
“Rhodia is committed to making road mobility sustainable by developing innovative solutions to help its customers respond to the key challenges of the automotive industry”, said Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, CEO of Rhodia.
During the Challenge Bibendum event, Rhodia announced the creation in 2008 of a new R&D facility in Shanghai which will allow Rhodia to boost the development of innovations for the Asian market. It will also provide a wider range of attractive career opportunities in the Group.
Rhodia is an international chemical company resolutely committed to sustainable development. Leader in its businesses, the Group aims to improve its customers' performance through the pursuit of operational excellence and its ability to innovate. Structured around seven Enterprises, Rhodia is the partner of major players in the automotive, tire, electronics, perfume, health and beauty and home care markets. The Group employs around 16,000 people worldwide and generated sales of €4.8 billion in 2006. Rhodia is listed on Euronext Paris.
Present in China for more than 30 years, Rhodia's operations in the country have grown very rapidly over the last ten years and today employ 2,300 people. Rhodia’s activities in China generate around 400 million euros.
