Thursday January 31, 8:00 pm ET
FAIRLAWN, Ohio, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OMNOVA Solutions today announced that, as part of its ongoing drive to improve productivity and lower costs, it is eliminating approximately 50 million wet pounds of latex capacity at its Mogadore, Ohio plant. This reduction will be accomplished by consolidating production into available capacity in Mogadore and other OMNOVA latex facilities. Employment at the Mogadore plant will not be affected by this action, as the workforce has been reduced 20% in the past three years due to natural attrition.
"OMNOVA's Performance Chemicals business unit achieved record productivity in 2007 and is driving efficiencies through our LEAN SixSigma operating approach," said Jim Hohman, President, Performance Chemicals at OMNOVA. "This is enabling us to manufacture under a lower cost, more streamlined model, which is critical in the current challenging operating environment that has featured record raw material cost inflation and flat end-use markets.
"The reduction in capacity at our largest latex facility reflects OMNOVA's commitment to aggressively manage capacity in order to improve margins and more effectively match market demand," Hohman said. "OMNOVA Solutions remains committed to providing our latex customers with innovative products, and excellent service and value."
OMNOVA Solutions is a technology-based company with 2007 sales of approximately $746 million and a current workforce of 2,850 employees worldwide.
