WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 2005--NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, released the results of its first quarter petrochemical production and inventory survey on Wednesday, April 27. VERIS Consulting, LLC conducts the survey for NPRA.
In the first quarter of 2005, total production of the 15 petrochemicals surveyed and reportable was 52.8 billion pounds. This figure represents an increase of 13% compared with same quarter 2004 production of 46.8 billion pounds of these petrochemicals, and a decrease of 4% compared with fourth quarter 2004 production of 55.0 billion pounds of the same petrochemicals. Total first quarter 2005 inventories of the six petrochemicals reportable was 3.9 billion pounds. This figure represents an increase of 21% from same quarter 2004 inventories of 3.2 billion pounds, and a decrease of 4% compared with fourth quarter 2004 inventories of 4.0 billion pounds for reportable petrochemicals.
From the fourth quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2005, production of five of the 15 petrochemicals surveyed and reportable increased, while inventories of three of the six petrochemicals surveyed and reportable increased.
NPRA regularly surveys the U.S. petrochemical and refining industries on a quarterly basis regarding production of 19 petrochemicals. NPRA also surveys end of the quarter inventory levels for eight of those petrochemicals. Data are only reported if they meet NPRA's policy for a minimum number of reporters and maximum share of a statistic by any one reporting company. The petrochemicals surveyed include ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene and mixed xylenes -- the basic building block chemicals -- and the largest volume first and in some cases, second derivatives of these petrochemicals. The report is published one month after the end of each quarter.
Member subscribers can now access the Survey of Production and Inventory Report for First Quarter 2005 on the NPRA website. It is part of the NPRA family of Petrochemical Surveys, including the Americas Report Survey of Production published quarterly, and the Selected Petrochemical Statistics, U.S. Trade Data Report published monthly.
NPRA is a national trade association with more than 450 members, including virtually all U.S. refiners and petrochemical manufacturers.
