UPDATE: Baytown Refinery Now Running At Reduced Rates

ExxonMobil's 567,000-barrel-per-day (b/d) refinery in Baytown, Texas, started operating at reduced rates on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reported Wednesday. In addition, BP's Texas City refinery went into restart mode Tuesday. As of 7 a.m. Central time Wednesday, Marathon's Texas city refinery was still in the process of repairing equipment.

Five refineries in the Port Arthur and Texas City areas with a total operable capacity of 1.2 million b/d were still shut down as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Based on DOE figures, operations at 20 refineries representing more than 4.9 million b/d of capacity have been affected by Ike. To review, here is a list of refineries affected by Ike and the status of each:

Hurricane Gustav

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, all but three Lower Mississippi River refineries affected by Hurricane Gustav were operating at normal rates. No refineries in the Lower Mississippi region were restarting or shut down.
