Calgon Carbon Corp. said it has won a $1 million contract to provide carbon recycling for a Bayer AG unit in Shanghai.
Calgon Carbon, a Pittsburgh-area supplier of carbon-based equipment and systems for air and water purification, said the deal with Bayer Polymers Co. is the company's first major service contract in China.
Recycled carbon can be used for drinking and waste water treatment, food and industrial process and air purification.
Under terms of the agreement, Calgon Carbon will lease to Bayer 10 mobile absorbers containing 200,000 pounds of activated carbon for waste water treatment at Bayer's new polycarbonate manufacturing facility in Shanghai.
The company will also be responsible for removing, transporting, and reactivating the spent activated carbon, as well as providing replacement carbon for the treatment system.
