FRANKFURT, Aug 8 (Reuters) - German drug and chemicals group Merck is founding a generics company in the United States called Genpharm LP to get direct access to its customers, it said in a statement on Monday.
Robert Mauro has been named president of Genpharm, Merck said.
"This step strengthens the presence of Merck in the world's biggest market and contributes to consolidating our position as the world's third-largest generic company," Hank Klakurka, head of Merck Generics group, said in the statement.
