Production of Metal Extractant Products to Increase by 50%
WEST PATERSON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2005--Cytec Industries Inc. announced today that it has completed expansion of its plant in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee to increase production capacity for metal extractant products that are of critical importance to the copper mining industry.
The Mount Pleasant facility, which employs about 145 people, produces a variety of specialty chemicals, including metal extractant products used in copper mining. The expansion will allow the plant to increase its output of these products by approximately 50 percent.
Shane Fleming, President Cytec Specialty Chemicals said, "Worldwide production of copper from oxide ores using metal extractant products is expected to grow at a rate of more than 10% per year over the next few years. Our expansion will enable Cytec to meet the growing demand for our products and reinforce our leading position in the mining chemicals market."
Mr. Fleming continued, "The work included increasing reactor capacity, upgrading the control system and involved a significant capital investment. The expansion has the added benefit of enabling the plant to significantly reduce its overall air emissions from current levels, despite the increase in capacity."
Cytec is a global leader in the production of specialty mining reagents. The company also produces promoters, collectors, flocculants, frothers and antiscalants for alumina, copper, nickel, cobalt and industrial mineral mines.
