Westlake Chemical Recognized By NPRA for Safety Excellence

HOUSTON, March 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Westlake Chemical has been recognized by the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA) for excellence in safety performance at several of its facilities in Sulphur, LA, located in the Lake Charles area.
Steve Pocsik, Vice President of Manufacturing, Lake Charles complex, said, "Recognition by the NPRA is confirmation of the extraordinary accomplishments our employees have achieved in the area of safety performance in 2004."
These awards recognize individual facilities in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industry, as well as the contractors supporting the industry, for their excellent record of safe operations during the 2004 calendar year. Westlake will receive the awards in ceremonies to be held May 12, 2005 in New Orleans.

The Gold Award recognizes facilities that have achieved a 25% or greater reduction in the total recordable incident rate with no workplace-related fatality of an employee or non-employee during the calendar year, as compared to the average total recordable incident rates for the three previous calendar years.
The Meritorious Award recognizes a facility for achieving a total recordable incident rate of 1.2 or less with no workplace-related fatality of an employee or non-employee during the calendar year.
The Achievement Award acknowledges facilities for operating one or more years without an employee lost workday case involving days away from work and without a workplace-related fatality of an employee or non-employee during the evaluation period.
