Description:
The Process Engineer provides the continuing technical support needed to resolve chemical process problems and improve plant operations through the design and construction of capital projects. The incumbent will utilize skills in chemical process design, capital project management and process technology to achieve these objectives. The individuals familiarity of the plant operation is an equally important element in the implementation of improvements in the plant.The Chemical Process Engineers role in the implementation of capital project activities is key in the success of the project. As a member of the project team, the incumbent directs the technical efforts of the team, ensuring that the concepts and technologies are thoroughly investigated and employed to optimize the resources of the company. In being the teams technical lead, the Process Engineer develops the written scope of work, detailing the project design with the assistance of the project engineer assigned to the team. The incumbent develops process flow diagrams, material and energy balances, piping and instrument diagrams and equipment specifications. The Process Engineer will be involved in initial development of a process control strategy as well. The Process Engineer maintains an active role through the construction and start-up of the project. At the completion of project construction, the Process Engineer will be intimately involved with the commissioning of the project and will train operating personnel in the system operation.
Requirements:
A degree in Chemical Engineering, a Masters degree in the field is preferred and at least ten years experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability in process design and developing a scope of work, including P&IDs, process control philosophy, material and energy balances and equipment specifications. Strong process design experience such as distillation, mass transfer, reaction, kinetics and thermodynamics. Previous experience with statistical tools, environmental and safety regulations, PHA and PSM processes, the MS Office suite, and CAD is required. Additional experience with SAP, CMMS, and Aspen is preferred.

The incumbent must be well versed in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), rotating equipment troubleshooting, vibration analysis, rotating equipment alignment, equipment selection, mechanical seals, balancing, grouting methods and technologies, Process Safety Management (PSM), best engineering practices, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Management of Change (MOC). The incumbent must have an ability to track progress of improvements through KPI’s (MTBR, MTBF, etc.); have good mechanical aptitude; have a good understanding of fixed equipment; lead and manage others effectively; be an effective communicator; and have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels.

Must have knowledge of chemical process equipment and Project Management experience (estimating, scheduling) Chemical plant design experience (equipment selection, efficient layouts) Process design experience (equipment sizing, heat loads, vapor pressure, mass balances). Ability to research and specify equipment in addition to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve problems. Ability to prioritize, schedule, inspect work, and (re)direct resources as necessary. Familiarity with project management techniques. Proficient spreadsheets, cost programs, and scheduling programs (Engineering spreadsheets / calculations a must). Working knowledge of OSHA standards.
