Description:

Provide chemical engineering expertise in support of plant wide activities in the areas of Cost Reduction, Utilities Conservation, New Product Development and capacity utilization and optimization. Will provide daily operational and technical support as well as develop and implement capital projects and technical improvement programs to improve the any one of a number of various plant operations. The incumbent will also provide new product development engineering scale-up services to transfer new product process technology from the R&D lab to the Pilot Plant and production facilities. The incumbent should be experienced in the manufacturing of chemicals and serve as a technical resource in the chemical engineering discipline. Will need to develop new processes and process modifications, conceive, design and install capital projects. The Pilot Plant is also supported by this engineer, which requires the development of new processes and procedures with a strong emphasis for safety. Process engineering scale-up assistance will be required for transitioning new products to production facilities. Project definition, design, installation and start-up for projects ranging from $25K to $10 million. Establish systems to gather data and monitor results to develop root causes of problems or to ensure a process modification will yield the desired results. Apply sound root cause analysis techniques and creative alternatives to technical related problems. |
Requirements:

A degree in Chemical Engineering with 8 years minimum and ideally 10-15 years of chemical manufacturing experience in a chemical or fine chemicals plant with emphasis on project development/implementation, cost reduction/process improvement, utilities conservation and new product development. Experience in process design and improvement including process trouble shooting and debottlenecking related to improving efficiency, capability, and safety. Experience in designing and installing small and medium sized capital projects. Involvement in pilot plant activities would be a desirable attribute. Experience and capability to manage minor DCS programming would be a desirable attribute. Prior experience working with R&D chemists and QC lab personnel towards new product and new process development. Knowledge of cGMP would be a plus. Ability to work under minimal supervision. This position requires the person to be well experienced in computer process simulation modeling using ASPEN or ChemCad modeling software (ChemCad preferred). Successful project start-up experience combined with a proven track record of working with Operations personnel in a union environment. Utilities engineering and conservation experience a plus. |
