SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER (Corporate Engineering Group)
Chicago, IL (50% home based/50% travel)
Develop and execute projects and programs across the BUs.
Specify and develop process technology for new process design and plant improvements.
Support the business, manufacturing plants and R&D.
Subject Matter Expert for one or more areas of technology.
Simulation and/or unit operation process expert.
Initial assignment EPC liaison for project.
Prepare process engineering packages 50%.
Prepare PFD's, P&ID's, heat, and material balances, etc.
Prepare equipment lists, specification sheets, etc. for assigned projects.
Use knowledge of safety regulations and environmental issues, and incorporate them into engineering work.
Participate and lead Hazard Reviews. Lead Hazop action closure.
Support plants 25%
Coordinate process tests with plants and provide oversight.
Develop and lead small capital projects and provides process support to larger capital projects.
Support operations. Give direction to hourly workers and hold accountable for results.
Assist operations as needed during deviations; use analysis skills for troubleshooting, turnaround support, etc.
Will assume the role of team leader or subject matter expert as needed and may establish priorities for employees or teams.
Support process conceptual studies 25%
Interface with global R&D leading to piloting and other scale up activities, process technology development, and subsequent process engineering.
Run pilot studies at company’s facility or at vendors.
Conduct basic engineering work and process analysis on complex plant unit operations.
Study process alternatives and develop preliminary economics analysis.
Utilize process modeling software such as Aspen and interpret data to generate solutions.
INITIAL ASSIGNMENT: Company representative - Represent Company at EPC office for project as main project liaison.
Answer EPC questions, consulting with the company team as needed and leading responses. Make technical decisions at EPC on behalf of the company.
Approve design output from EPC, including but not limited to:
PFD and material balance
Equipment lists and specifications
Process and safety device calculations
Take part in design reviews
Take part in HAZOP and own the translation of HAZOP items into design closure, including approval and development of SRS and interlock lists.
Support development of control strategy
Perform own design work as required.
REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Chemical Engineering. This position is home-based 50% of the time but must be open to traveling to other sites and EPC offices the other 50%. Process Engineering background in chemicals processing with experience working on multi-million dollar capital projects. Continuous Improvement experience is preferred.
Effectively organize and plan work.

Has demonstrated a high level of theoretical and practical engineering understanding and track record of successfully solving problems and meeting deadlines. Solutions and projects are expected to work reliably.
Well versed in the Laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes, including but not limited to federal laws regarding environmental compliance issues, process hazards techniques, engineering standards, OSHA requirements, PSM, etc.
Process analysis, alternatives analysis and preliminary economics analysis.
Experience working with engineering contractors.
Process engineering tools and modeling software.
Prepare strong reports and proposals and ability to present technical work to management.
Knowledge and ability to incorporate CSR, wastewater and energy minimization and control into projects.
Ability to assume the role of team Leader as needed.
