SUMMARY: Reporting to the General Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the production, utilities, and shipping facilities by providing effective, engaged and empowered leadership to the Production Department. The production facilities include one ammonia plant, two urea liquor plants, four nitric acid plants, one UAN plant, and an ammonium nitrate complex with solution, industrial and agricultural prill capacity. Products are shipped by truck, rail, barge, and pipeline.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Environment, Health & Safety:
Demonstrate safety leadership by empowering the team to enhance the safety culture, creating an environment where all employees are openly engaged in achieving a zero-incident worksite.
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of plant and relevant external policies and standards that apply to an operating and shipping facility and ensures compliance with requirements.
Demonstrate leadership visibility, ensuring actions continually reinforce EHS performance as a core value.
Foster a culture of open, continuous learning and sharing from all EHS incidents, near misses, and opportunities.
Plant Operations:
Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of all aspects of production and shipping operations.
Demonstrate a passion and drive for continuous improvement through optimizing existing assets as well as working closely with the Engineering Department to ensure the right project opportunities are explored.
Develop Production Department budgets (cost, production, efficiency) for annual budget process and effectively manages production resources to deliver results.
Foster an effective department relationship with Maintenance to ensure strategic cohesion in planning for and delivering continuously improving reliability.
Assist General Manager in effectively communicating with corporate Supply Chain and Raw Material Purchasing to ensure inventory and gas availability issues do not adversely impact the ability to meet production targets.
Understand and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal control efforts.
People Leadership & Development:
Develop competent and skilled employees able to meet the current and future needs of the Production Department while providing opportunities for High Potential employees.
Ensure all members of the Production Department are given a quality performance review and development plan, maximizing the potential of every employee.
Ensure Production Department employees are managed consistent with site policies and according to site managing principles.
Effectively manage people resources to provide the optimum coverage for continuous safe, efficient operation of the assets.
Site Leadership Team:
Actively participates as a member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT) representing the Production department and contributing to the SLT from their area of expertise and experience.
Participate in strategic planning activities to establish priorities. Own and execute relevant elements of strategic plan.
Actively participate in the Incident Management Team.
Serve as a potential delegate for General Manager in their absence.
REPORTS: This role reports to the General Manager, and has 4 direct reports – all production superintendents (1 Shipping/Logistics & 3 from each Operating Plant). Indirect reports are 170.
REQUIREMENTS: Open on Engineering degree, ChE, EE or ME. Must have quite a bit of leadership experience (min 7 yrs.). Will consider someone at the Supt level ready to take the next step. Must be a change agent as this plant was running at a very status quo level.
