OPERATIONS TEAM LEADER

PURPOSE: The Operations Superintendent works to support the plant through safe, efficient operation of units. This role is responsible for the operations organization in the assigned process area, establishes the short- and long-term planning & activity coordination, acts as the primary and initial contact for other resources for strategy development and issue resolution, and provides guidance, execution strategy and, where necessary, technical oversight in the execution of the department strategy. This position is developmental for possible succession to the Operations Manager position.

DUTIES:
Directly manages activities and initiatives in their operations area.
Develops operations employees through mentoring, coaching, training, goal setting and performance feedback.
Ensures compliant operation of all units.
Drives for consistent application of all policies and procedures.
Develops programs and engages other departments as needed.
Ensure alignment with Supervisors and Coordinators on all issues.
Maintains technical expertise and facilitates appropriate responses to critical issues.
Drives continuous improvement in all aspects of assigned operating areas.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Daily Operations:
Daily focus on improving personal safety, process safety, and reliability.
Daily focus on elevating the operations organization.
Review Unit operations and work with Supervisors, Coordinators and Process Engineering to make needed changes to optimize the units.
Review actual vs plan targets.
Ensure plans are disseminated throughout Operations so everyone is informed.
Work with the operation team to drive improvements.
Work with Planning and communicate the plan throughout operations.
Review utility and energy usage and drive optimization.
Support turnaround development.
Identify improvements and ensure scope is included in TA as needed.
Ensure development and proper use of effective operator rounds and shift handovers.

Safety:
Lead the safety efforts for the plant. Be proactive. Involve everyone.
Abide by and enforce all Calumet’s Critical Life Safety Rules; If it isn’t Safe We Don’t Do It!
Health, Safety and Environmental compliance management.
Establish and reinforce housekeeping standards - do routine unit tours and set standards for areas.
Review and execute area safety and environmental audits.

Environmental:
Maintain a proactive stance on environmental issues.
Understand Title V permits.
Ensure compliance with SPCC plan (spill containment).

Maintenance:
Provide leadership to drive proactive practices to improve reliability and overall performance.
Maintain the reliability of equipment and infrastructure to maximize on-stream time.
Monitor maintenance priorities.
Work with Engineering & Maintenance Manager to drive productivity improvements.

Startup, Shutdown, Malfunction and Emergency Response:
Respond to plant during an off-hours emergency.
Provide assistance during startup and shutdown of process units.
Provide oversight during malfunctioning of process units as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Degree in Chemical Engineering or other technical degree
Refinery or chemical manufacturing operations experience
5 or more years' supervisory experience
Excellent communications skills
Strong business acumen
Sound leadership skills
Effective team skills
Capability of working with all levels of the organization
Multitasking capabilities
Ability to mentor, coach and develop supervisors
Critical thinking skills

CAVEATS: Your experience must be as a direct employee of an operating chemical, refining, petrochemical, or closely related industry. You must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, and you must reside in the USA.
